Egypt is getting some sun!

The world is moving towards renewable energy and developing significant projects for the world to witness the excellence. Which, do you think, is the country today that has the largest solar farm in the world? You may think it is California or maybe the solar obsessed country China. China does hold the batch but very soon this recognition is going to shift. The largest sun farm is soon going to open in the middle of the desert sands of Egypt.

Let’s face it: Egypt, although has been the recipient of enormous sunlight throughout the year, has never been recognised for renewable energy. Infact, this country has faced numerous blackouts and now the country has prepared itself with a futuristic structure of $2.8 billion solar farm, ‘Benban Complex’.

This solar complex has the capacity to produce nearly 2 gigawatts of electricity which is more than double the capacity of the China’s Longyangxia Dam Solar Park, the present largest solar farm. This project will help alleviate the dependence on non-renewable sources of energy at a significant level.

According to a Bloomberg report, the world today is capable of producing upto 1,000 gigawatts of solar and wind power! This has been possible because of the focussed progression for the last 40 years. According to the report, even though it took us so many years to reach this figure but the growth will be exponential from here. With the help of upcoming installations, we could double the capacity by 2023.

Will Benban complex sustain as one of the wonders of the renewable world or more countries will step ahead in exhibiting the excellence in this domain?
